"Lay" vs "Lie"

“To lay” is transitive. Don't confuse it with “to lie”.

A chicken can lay an egg, and you can lay a book on the table, but you can't just “lay down.”

Wrong: “The problem lays here.”

Right: “The problem lies here.”
